Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday starts Friday in Florida

It’s a good time to stock up on hurricane supplies in Florida because the 2020 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday starts tomorrow.

It runs through next Thursday, and certain items are exempt from sales tax.

“Experts are predicting an active storm season, so now is the time to get prepared,” says Florida’s Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis. “Don’t wait until a storm is approaching, it may be too late.”

There are price thresholds for most items, which means you can’t spend too much on a single item.

The items selling for $20 or less include candles, flashlights and lanterns. For $30 or less you can buy various types of batteries, but that doesn’t include car or boat batteries.

Portable generators are also on the list as long as you don’t spend more than $750 dollars.

You can go here for a full list of items included.
