Coronavirus: JEA suspends service disconnections for customers unable to pay their bill on time

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Until further notice, JEA will suspend service disconnections – water and electric – for customers who are unable to pay their bill on time.

The utilities company encourages customers to pay their bill by the due date if they are able. However, if they need more time to pay, JEA is also offering payment extensions and arrangements .

Additionally, JEA is instituting the following measures effective Monday, March 16:

  • Requiring employees who've recently traveled to high-risk countries as defined by the CDC or been on a cruise ship to self-quarantine for the recommended 14-day incubation period upon return to the U.S.
  • Ensuring employees who are able to work from home get the tools they need to do so
  • Suspending all non-essential travel, internal meetings and professional development classes to reduce transmission risks within and beyond our facilities
  • Discontinuing home water and energy audits and other activities that require JEA employees to enter a customer's home
