Gas prices in Florida have plummeted to a four-year low

Jacksonville, Fla. — Gas prices in Florida have plummeted to a four-year low, but AAA predicts prices could go up as Florida slowly begins to reopen.

You may have enjoyed cheaper prices at the gas pump during the coronavirus pandemic, but you might want to fill up your tank while the prices are this low. AAA predicts prices could go up as Florida slowly begins to reopen.

“The phased reopening of businesses and restaurants will signal a return to the road for many Florida drivers,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA

The Auto Club Group. “They are driving more, they are flying more. Then the demand will increase, and that will take some of the pressure off of the supply.”

AAA said prices have plummeted 65 cents in the past 10 weeks. Jenkins said while the increased demand may not cause a pump price surge immediately, it may signal the eventual end of the plunge at the pump.

As of Wednesday night, the average price for a regular gallon of unleaded gasoline in Florida is $1.76. Jacksonville is seeing some of the cheapest gas prices statewide where the average is $1.60.
