Gov. DeSantis again says he has no intentions of shutting down state’s economy a second time

Jacksonville, FL — On Tuesday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis again said he’s not interested in shutting down the state’s economy a second time amid the recent spike in coronavirus cases. He says he doesn’t think that places being open and people going to those businesses is what’s causing the spike, instead he says its due to more social interactions.

“You had a lot of different activities going on in different parts of the state, uh, Memorial Day the two weeks after Memorial Day.” DeSantis says.

The state moved into phase two of reopening back on June 5th which included bars reopening at 50% capacity and restaurants moving to 50% capacity from 25%. Retailers and gyms were also able to have full capacity in phase two among other things.

DeSantis says instead of shutting down the economy again, the state will continue to focus on protecting those most vulnerable to the virus, and by protecting them, the state will be able to get through this spike adequality.
