‘Beavis and Butt-Head’ reboot coming to Comedy Central

Heh-heh. He said reboot.

Beavis and Butt-Head are returning to television. Comedy Central announced that the two teen coluch potatoes, who were a pop-culture sensation during the 1990s on MTV, will return for two seasons as part of a deal with the series’ original creator, Mike Judge, and 3 Arts Entertainment, Variety reported.

The deal will also include specials and a possible spin-off series, the website reported.

In its new version, Judge will produce and provide voiceover for both characters, who will enter a “whole new Gen Z world” with themes relatable to both new fans and also to longtime fans, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“It seemed like the time was right to get stupid again,” Judge said in a statement.

“Beavis and Butt-Head” made its debut on MTV’s Liquid Television in 1992 and became a standalone series a year later. The show ran through 1997, airing between 25 and 50 episodes each year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The teen slackers even had their own movie, 1996′s “Beavis and Butt-Head Do America.”

“We are thrilled to be working with Mike Judge and the great team at 3 Arts again as we double down on Adult Animation at Comedy Central” Chris McCarthy, president of Entertainment & Youth Group at ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks, said in a statement. “Beavis and Butt-Head were a defining voice of a generation, and we can’t wait to watch as they navigate the treacherous waters of a world light-years from their own.”

Judge has plenty of experience in animation and comedy. He was a co-creator for the Fox animated comedy, “King of the Hill,” which ran for 13 seasons, Variety reported. Judge also worked on films like “Office Space” and “Idiocracy,” the website reported.

Judge is currently under contract with HBO, which covers all forms of television outside of animation, Variety reported.
