WATCH: 5-foot alligator found in Central Florida stormwater pipe

OVIEDO, Fla. — Oviedo Public Works crews had a surprising encounter Friday while investigating a series of potholes.

A stormwater crew was at Lockwood Boulevard near Riverside when they dispatched a four-wheel robotic camera used to inspect potential roadway defects underground.

What they came across instead were two little glowing eyes that crews originally thought belonged to a toad, until the video showed them the long tail that belonged to a five-foot alligator.

The robot got about 340 feet inside the pipe before it got stuck, and the alligator meandered off, according to the city.
