Florida lawmakers asking Operation Warp Speed to increase state’s vaccine allotment

A group of bipartisan Florida lawmakers has sent a letter to Operation Warp Speed officials asking for an increase in Florida’s vaccine allotment.

According to the letter, the delegation believes that Florida should be given more vaccines to account for seasonal residents as well.

“In pursuit of an end to the pandemic and in the interest of the health of all individuals currently residing in Florida, the State of Florida has committed to vaccinate both residents and non-residents. Consequently, the vaccine is also currently available to all individuals over the age of 65 regardless of residency. This has understandably put a strain on the limited allotment. In order for an effective level of vaccinations to occur in a timely and equitable manner, federal allocation allotments to states must ensure they account for all populations residing in a state, not just those that are residents,” the lawmakers wrote.

The letter was signed by Florida Senator Rubio, along with the following representatives: Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL), W. George Steube (R-FL), Neal Dunn (R-FL), Theodore Deutch (D-FL), Bill Posey (R-FL), Byron Donalds (R-FL), Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL), John H. Rutherford (R-FL), Michael Waltz (R-FL), Vern Buchanan (R-FL), Stephanie Murphy (D-FL), C. Scott Franklin (R-FL), Kat Cammack (R-FL), Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Carlos Gimenez (R-FL), Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), and Brian Mast (R-FL).
