JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — If you drive along San Jose Boulevard, you may want to work in some additional time to your commute.

On Feb.10, JEA will start work to replace a water main between Old River Road and Claire Lane. That is about a half-mile stretch.

This comes after an emergency repair of a water main break in July.

JEA determined a full replacement of the pipe was needed. This is to maintain the reliability of the water system and to prevent future outages and traffic disruptions.

Willie Cannon drives on San Jose Boulevard every day to get to work. He remembers the headaches that the water main break caused for him and other employees at Mandola’s Italian Kitchen.

“The employees are always at least 20 to 30 minutes late all the time,” Cannon said. “It is a big inconvenience for everybody.”

Now as crews work on the replacement, one traffic lane in each direction on San Jose Boulevard may be temporarily closed at times between Interstate 295 and Ricky Road during construction.

One northbound lane will be closed from 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. and one southbound lane will be closed from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m.

The median and turn lanes within the work zone will be closed for the three-month duration of the project and extended or weekend work hours will be required to expedite the project.

It is also important to note that speed limits in the area will be reduced to 35 mph.

The replacement project is expected to be completed in May.
