One dead, two injured in I-295 wrong-way Jacksonville crash, driver of stolen truck sought

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A motorcyclist is dead and two others were injured after a chaotic scene Tuesday evening on Interstate 295 North at the 103rd Street exit. Florida Highway Patrol said a man was driving a stolen pickup truck southbound - the wrong way - on the interstate at about 4:38 p.m. when he struck a motorcyclist throwing the rider to the ground.

Another vehicle, a 2021 Acura sedan driven by a 33-year-old Glen Saint Mary man, hit the motorcycle and the rider who was lying in the roadway, an FHP news release states. The car then struck the center metal guardrail.

The driver of the stolen pickup exited the truck and attempted to steal another vehicle, the news release states. He ran away and was last seen riding on the exterior of a semi-tractor trailer, the news release states.

The motorcyclist, a 66-year-old Jacksonville man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.

The driver of the Acura and his passenger, a 33-year-old Glen Saint Mary woman, were treated for minor injuries, the news release states.

A search for the driver of the stolen truck continued Wednesday morning. Police said he may have injuries consistent with a collision, or an altercation.
