JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A suspect is still at large after they drove off from a traffic stop and ran away Wednesday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
FHP tried to conduct a traffic stop with the suspect but they did not stop the car. The pursuit ended near Florida State College at Jacksonville’s Deerwood Center on Old Baymeadows Road, which is near Baymeadows Road and Southside Boulevard.

The trooper attempted a PIT (Precision Immobilization Technique) maneuver on the vehicle, FHP said.
The suspect got out of the car and ran away into a nearby apartment complex. FHP said the suspect has not yet been located.
The trooper was not hurt during the pursuit, FHP said.

Just after 12:30 p.m., FSCJ first sent the following emergency notification about the search for a suspect.
“Please be advised that there is a heavy police presence ongoing at Deerwood Center due to vehicular pursuit and suspect fleeing on foot. At this time, there is no immediate threat to the Center, however the center is included in the perimeter of the search. Students and employees may still enter and exit at this time.”

Just before 1:15 p.m., FSCJ said the “all clear” had been given to resume “normal operations” at Deerwood Center.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said it was in the area assisting FHP.
