Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade in Jacksonville kicks off Monday morning at 11

Monday’s parade through downtown Jacksonville was originally scheduled for 10 a.m., but now it’s been pushed back to an 11 a.m. start.

It will be the 40th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade to celebrate the life and legacy of the civil rights icon. The parade route will be the same as for the Veterans Day Parade, going from Water Street to Laura Street before heading down Adams Street and then finishing at the intersection of Lee and Bay streets.

The entire routes is 1.5 miles long.

There will be floats and live performances from area marching bands as well as dance troupes and decorated vehicles. Spectators will have the chance to get a T-shirt during the parade.

The parade should last about 2 hours, and people are asked to follow social distancing guidelines due to the coronavirus pandemic.
